Magic Sprinkle
to dust all over your life ✨
This morning, I was dreaming about the multitude of things that can be made from the increasing abundance of vegetables we’re receiving from our CSA share. The first tomatoes were included last week and since June there’s been baby beets, all varieties of lettuces, cucumbers and tender, buttery zucchinis. We’ve also been pulling baby carrots from our own raised beds whilst watering, giving them a quick rinse and eating them immediately. I love thinking about the big effect these tiny moments might have in informing the growing taste buds of the kiddos, not to mention the mighty nutrition the freshly plucked orange root contains. This is the reason you’ll find me carrying around raw vegetables like Japanese turnips, fennel with fronds (Ezra likes the stalks only) and whole cukes to offer as snacks wherever the summer days take us. Now you may be expecting a recipe utilizing all these gorgeous peak-season gems. Instead what I’m offering here contains zero fresh produce. It’s a recipe you can make ahead and sprinkle everywhere to elevate anything and everything. You can dip raw vegetables right into it, dust it over simple steamed vegetables, scatter it over a salad, rice or even pasta or noodles. Oh, and if you make a simple humus without any spices (so the children will eat it) you can jazz up your own portion with a pinch, so everyone is happy.
Is this sprinkle magic because it transforms simple dishes so effortlessly or is it magic because it uses ingredients, I bet you have sitting in your pantry? You decide! Below I’ve compiled photos of the ways it’s adding a little magic to my meals and snacks—I’ll list the ingredients so you can make them too.
For this month’s livestream I’ll be making this magic sprinkle and my go-to salad dressing to make ahead and use for leafy salads all week long. Plus walk you through the steps I take to utilize my CSA vegetables in my meal planning. Even if you don’t have a CSA, you’ll find useful tips using the seasonal produce you pick-up at your local farmer’s market or co-op.
Bring your questions or comment here if you can’t make it. The recording will be sent out later Saturday.
